Employment History

2006 – 2007 Newsquest (Evening Times) Glasgow / Web Desk

During my time at The Evening Times I did temporary work for the Web Desk. This involved working with people more experienced than myself using a number of applications including Quark Express and FotoStation Pro (for image management) as well as the in-house Content Management System for online news aggregation. At the end of my time spent with the paper I was offered a fixed position with the team.

2003 – 2006 W. M Morrison’s Supermarket(formerly Safeway)
East Kilbride / Sales Assistant

Upon joining Safeway I was assigned as a team member of the newly established, “Home Entertainment” department. This was an interesting and challenging department as it was one of the first of its kind within the Safeway organisation. My role was initially a cashier but through hard work I was promoted to selling electrical products and handling queries from the public. I learned to give excellent customer service and manage my time, as well as communicate clearly within a team and make responsible decisions.

Interests and Additional Information

  • Athletics: I have been running since I was a teenager and became a member of the Scottish Athletics Team at seventeen. Since then I have competed for Scotland several times both individually and in a relay team. I also run for a local team, East Kilbride Athletic Club.

  • Affiliations: Member of British Computer Society
  • Other: I enjoy going to the cinema and socialising with friends.

Achievements

  • I achieved the position of Vice-Captain at Duncanrig Secondary School. This involved a wide range of responsibilities; delegating tasks to house captains, organising events, solving student-related problems and public speaking. This improved my confidence and ability to work closely with others.
  • I have held Scottish Athletics titles (under17, under20 and under23) for 100m, 200m, 400m as well as being ranked first for those events and at under17 level held the British 150m record.
