I got my hands on the LG Prada phone on Monday and
I’ve been using it for 5 days now. So what do I think of it? Is it an iPod Killer?
The Good
- It has a small, smart and clean design.
- The phone is fairly small and slim.
- The menu system is intuitive and easy to use.
- It’s fairly easy to use with your finger, although it does take some time to get used to and texting is very hard at first.
- The camera is only 2MP, but it takes very good quality photos.
- Has world clock; built in games; FM Radio
The Bad
- Lack of continuity between applications. This is most notable is on similar applications like the radio and MP3 player - the volume slider is implemented differently, the MP3 player is not the same as the one used to play files from folders.
- Number of bugs on the LG Prada. The most annoying one I’ve found is the MP3 player bug that doesn’t allow you to play music contained outside the MP3 folder. When I say outside I mean other folders and even sub folders. This means you have to store all your music in one folder. And, also, while I’m talking about the MP3 player, it also lacks really basic features like sorting by Artist/Album/etc, multiple play lists (you only get something comparable with Apple’s “on the go” play list.
- No built-in MP3 jack, which used to really bug me on my Sony Ericsson Phone.
- The screen can get scratched easily, in saying that though, Prada have provided a pouch, which does bulk up the thickness of the handset.
- The web-browser is awful! Seriously, if you need one then stay away. I was really disappointed by it. I actually downloaded Opera Mini, which is optimized for large touch screens.
- For a flash-based phone you would expect a Flash player for games and son on, but you don’t get one.
The LG Prada is a brilliant first “touch only” phone from LG. However, in saying that, I don’t think (even though I’ve never touched one) it will come close the the “user experience” the iPhone will provide and the LG Prada feels rushed, which definitely has had an impact on the the quality you would expect.
The Summary
Dies in the details; very expensive; good looking; NOT an iPod killer.
