The past year has seen many exciting online products launched, but by far the most anticipated of them all is the Windows Live Line.
My first problem: The branding problem. As someone who uses a computer from time to time, or everyday, what Windows Live is and they struggle. Originally I read that it’s a bunch of online services, but I have client-based products like One Care.
My next problem: Why is Windows Live Search the landing platform for live.com? Why not MSN or something similar. You might say to yourself that they are two different products, but Windows Live Install sets your homepage to msn.com. Paul Thurrot wrote: “For fans of MSN.com, I’ve got good news. Microsoft will proceed with what it calls a dual portal strategy”. Confused? Me too.
And Lastly: Integration. I know that they can’t have all the products integrated from day 1 and that it takes time, but what launch some products with integration and some without. It really annoys me because people that don’t work for Microsoft have no idea what’s going on.
I think these are fairly serious issues and I have a load more, but I’m going to leave it at that just now and not get too carried away. I hope that all these can be fixed because it’s a real shame to be launching these brilliant products in a haze of confusion.
